On Saturday, Stephen Halliday scored the deciding goal at 9:46 of the third period, lifting the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Ottawa's season opener.
Goaltender Linus Ullmark made 27 saves to secure the victory, while Ottawa captain Thomas Chabot recorded a goal and an assist and Michael Amadio scored to provide the offensive support.
Auston Matthews and Kirill Marchenko scored for Toronto, with Sergei Bobrovsky stopping 26 shots in the loss; center John Tavares marked his 600th regular-season game for the franchise.
With the defeat, the Maple Leafs fell to 1-2 to start the season, handing them their second loss in three games. Associate coach Daniel Alfredsson faced his former team for the first time.
Ottawa visits the Boston Bruins on Monday, while Toronto hosts the Nashville Predators on Tuesday in their respective next regular-season matchups.
