HAL to Hand over Tejas Trainers, HTT-40 Aircraft and Dhruv NG Helicopters to IAF, Pawan Hans

The delivery includes 70 HTT-40 trainers ordered by the Air Force and marks HAL’s first domestically built basic trainer aircraft.

  • On Friday, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited handed over the first indigenous HTT-40 basic trainer to the Indian Air Force in Bengaluru, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attending the ceremony.
  • The Ministry of Defence stated this development marks an important milestone in India's journey toward becoming "atmanirbhar," reducing military reliance on foreign-origin platforms like the Pilatus trainer and the Hawk.
  • With 70 aircraft on order, the HTT-40 operates at altitudes of nearly 6,000 metres with a top speed of 300 knots; the first four were delivered Friday as scheduled.
  • Alongside the trainer handover, HAL delivered two twin-seat Tejas trainers to the IAF and a Dhruv Next Generation helicopter to Pawan Hans Limited, expanding its military and civilian portfolio.
  • Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu attended the Bengaluru event, underscoring the government's commitment to domestic aerospace design as India modernizes its aviation fleet.
