3 Haitian Police Officers and 2 Civilians Killed as Gangs Overrun a Central Region
HAITI, JUL 23 – The Kenyan-led mission supports Haitian police amid gang warfare that killed over 1,000 people and displaced nearly 15,000, U.N. data shows.
- On Wednesday, the government and SPNH-17 reported that three police officers and two civilians were killed in Haiti’s central region.

Haiti’s government and a police union say three police officers and two civilians have been killed in the country’s central region where gang violence has surged.
The armed gangs continue to impose their law in the Artibonite department. On Tuesday, July 22, a patrol of the Haitian National Police fell into an ambush in Liancourt, in Lower Artibonite, killing two policemen, another is reported missing. A civilian scout who accompanied the law enforcement forces also lost his life. According to the deputy spokesman of the national police, Lionel Lazarre, the agents were trapped by the heavily armed bandits.
The escalation of armed violence in the Haitian department of Artibonite has led to the displacement of thousands of people and aggravated an already dramatic humanitarian crisis. The UN is sounding the alarm.
