Hayden Hackney Explains the One Reason Why He Chose Everton After Boro Exit
The midfielder cited David Moyes’ record of developing Championship players as he became Everton’s second signing of the summer.
On Thursday, Everton completed the signing of Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney on a five-year contract, marking manager David Moyes' first summer acquisition.
The transfer ends Hackney's 14-year association with his hometown club Boro, where the former Championship Player of the Year made over 150 appearances before the move.
Everton paid approximately £16.5 million upfront with add-ons potentially reaching £25 million, as Moyes cited his proven track record of developing Championship signings into Premier League stars.
Hackney expressed enthusiasm about joining 'such a big club,' stating, "Hopefully I can be the next one to do it successfully for Everton."
The Toffees begin pre-season on July 18 against Dundee, then face Crystal Palace, Manchester United, and Tottenham in their opening fixtures as they aim to improve on last season's 13th-place finish.
