An inter-university expert group has prepared a concept for political neutrality and effective governance of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT). It emphasizes four main principles that, according to experts, should be used to improve the governance of the public broadcaster – separation of functions, professionalism, ensuring publicity and transparency, and guaranteeing financial independence.
Despite widespread criticism from the public and journalists regarding the government's plans to amend the LRT law, and international organizations expressing concern, researchers from three Lithuanian higher education institutions – Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, and ISM University of Management and Economics – have submitted a concept for the political neutrality and effective governance of the LRT for public discussion.
