Miami Wants More than $4 Million From Rockstar for GTA 6 Marketing Campaign
The 4-3 vote lets the city manager seek a multimillion-dollar deal for game advertising as commissioners debate its violent content.
- On Thursday, the Miami Beach commission voted 4-3 to authorize negotiations with Rockstar Games for a Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing campaign, potentially bringing millions in advertising revenue to the seaside city.
- Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz previously condemned the collaboration last month, calling Grand Theft Auto a "franchise built around criminal activity," while some commissioners voiced discomfort with the game's depiction of violence.
- Commissioner Tanya Katzoff Bhatt argued the deal could generate benefits "closer to $4m" for Flamingo park projects, while Commissioner David Suarez presented footage opposing the association, saying "I don't think it's worth any amount of money."
- Advertisements will run "discreetly" through Boucher Brothers beach infrastructure, featuring Roman numerals rather than the game's title, and will not appear on city property or at Art Basel in December.
- Rockstar Games is simultaneously pursuing a separate deal with Basketball Properties and Miami-Dade County to display a large GTA6 sign on the Kaseya Center roof, extending the marketing campaign's regional reach.
