Merton Council officers have begun patrolling the borough as part of a new safety initiative.
The Safer Streets Team is one of the ways the authority is trying to tackle antisocial behaviour. The borough’s 24-hour CCTV network is also being upgraded and expanded. The dedicated officers will help tackle street drinking and drug use, enforce the law and issue fines.

The council is proposing to introduce important rules to combat antisocial behaviour in Westgate-on-Sea, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. The new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) will be reviewed by the Cabinet when they meet on Thursday 24 July.
