Helsinki airport ground staff went on a one-day strike on Friday over a wage dispute, a spokesman for the Finnish Airline Union (IAU) said. Finnish airline Finnair said on Wednesday it would cancel around 80 flights, affecting the travel plans of 8,000 people, if the strike goes ahead on Friday. The ground staff at Helsinki Airport held a strike on Friday, which was reported by a spokesman of the Finnish aviation union IAU. The reason for the strike is a persistent conflict over wages. Finnair had already announced that in the event of the strike on Friday about 80 flights would be cancelled. Around 8000 passengers were affected. The IAU is also planning further industrial action.
