Couple Paying for Wedding After Pokémon Cards Sell for over $40,000
Three rare Charizard cards fetched £32,800 at auction, and Andrew Braund will use the proceeds to help pay for his wedding.
- Ex-Collector Andrew Braund sold three rare Charizard cards for £32,800 at Ewbank's Auctions in Wimborne, Dorset, with proceeds funding his upcoming wedding.
- Braund discovered the collection while clearing his childhood loft and expected it worth a few hundred pounds until a friend identified three Charizard cards stored separately in a tin, worth tens of thousands.
- A mint condition Skyridge Charizard Holo sold for £17,000, setting a house record, while a near-mint copy fetched £13,000 and a Reverse-Holo version sold for £2,800.
- "I don't have to worry about where the money for the wedding is going to come from now," Braund said, as auctioneer Andrew Ewbank called the sale a "double delight."
- Braund, who got engaged to Rachel Moseley at last year's Chalke Valley History Festival, is due to marry his fiancée in August using the auction windfall.
