Greenville PD: Officer killed, second on life support after Upstate crash
The head-on collision killed five people and left Sgt. Diana Munoz in critical condition, according to police.
- On Friday, a head-on collision on Highway 101 in Spartanburg County killed five people and hospitalized one, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. A 2025 Ford SUV traveling north collided with a 2016 Toyota SUV heading south around 12:45 a.m.
- Victims identified by the coroner include Greenville Police Department Sergeant Ashley Munoz, 35, Maria Del Rosario Munoz, 62, Deborah Sue Wyatt, 50, and Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., 46. One occupant's identity remains pending family notification.
- Sergeant Diana Munoz, a 12-year veteran and the department's Public Information Officer, remains in critical condition after being airlifted to a local hospital. Greenville Police said the couple, who have two small children, were returning from vacation when the accident occurred.
- A memorial for Sergeant Ashley Munoz now stands at the City of Greenville Public Safety Campus at 204 Halton Road. The public is invited to visit and show support for the Munoz family and the Greenville Police Department.
- The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office stated, "Our hearts are broken along with theirs," expressing support for the department during the tragedy.
