38 Oxley Road Site Set to Be Gazetted as National Monument, for Possible Use as Heritage Park
The government will protect 38 Oxley Road from redevelopment and may convert it into a heritage park after expert assessments deemed it of national historic importance.
- On Nov 3, 2025 the Government announced it intends to gazette 38 Oxley Road, Singapore to preserve it as a national monument after NHB and PSM advisory board recommendations.
- After a long-running family dispute first made public in 2017 and resurfacing after Dr Lee Wei Ling's death in October 2024, the PSM advisory board launched a formal assessment following an NHB study.
- If a preservation order is made, the Government plans to acquire the site and could convert it into public space or a heritage park, pending a detailed study; NHB and SLA said they have not yet assessed the buildings' state.
- Under the Preservation of Monuments Act 2009, NHB has given Mr Lee Hsien Yang written notice and he has two weeks until Nov 17 to submit objections.
- Singapore currently has 76 national monuments, with the latest being three blocks of Kandang Kerbau Hospital gazetted Oct 1, 2025, and the house now belongs solely to Mr Lee Hsien Yang.
