Pakistan Shi'ites deported from UAE return to lost jobs, frozen savings
The minister said 3,494 Pakistanis were deported between January and April, while the opposition called for diplomatic and legal help for affected workers.
On Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry told the Senate that around 3,494 Pakistanis were deported from the UAE between January and April, dismissing reports of targeted victimization as "mala fide propaganda."
Opposition leader Raja Nasir Abbas challenged these figures, claiming 2,000 Pakistanis were forcibly deported with assets left inaccessible, citing victims from Kurram Agency and South Punjab.
Reports from Chakwal district document more than 100 Shi'ite Muslims returned without luggage or savings; Human Rights Watch is "investigating these serious allegations" of arbitrary detention.
Senator Sherry Rehman referred the matter to the Senate standing committee on foreign affairs while the government pledged to present verified figures after receiving data from the foreign ministry.
