West Virginia honors Dolly Parton with read-a-thon contest to encourage reading

Governor Patrick Morrisey launched, on Sept. 25, 2026, Dolly Days Read-a-Thon to honor Dolly Parton, who helped found the Imagination Library reading program. The goal is to encourage K-5th graders across the state to read books. Students can print reading logs and upload them to the West Virginia State Library.

Governor Patrick Morrisey announces launch of statewide Dolly Days Read-A-thon challenge for K-5 students

The challenge begins October 1 and is open to all West Virginia students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Students will have until December 31 to read 25 books, an average of about two books a week. Students can track their progress using a paper reading log, available online or at participating public libraries. #WOAY
