The Government is considering appointing commissioners to Croydon Council due to financial concerns.

The council declared bankruptcy in November 2022, with government concerns over increasing service demand and historic debt. With feedback requested, Croydon Mayor Jason Perry claims they’ve saved £167m over the past four years with £50m projected in 2025. He adds he balanced the budget in 2023 by increasing tax by 10% in 2023 and developed a two-year plan to cut service delivery costs.
