In a new review, the Swedish National Audit Office examines the state's efforts for bicycle traffic. The bicycle infrastructure is uneven, dangerous and ends abruptly in the middle of the roads - something all road users have experienced, several interest groups write on DN Debatt.
DN DEBATT. All cyclists who have ever suddenly found themselves in the middle of a road have felt that the conditions for safe cycling are, to say the least, substandard. The cycling infrastructure is the state's responsibility, which it has failed to do, and the Swedish National Audit Office has now concluded that development is even going in the wrong direction. The government must stop neglecting this issue, write several interest groups.
The Riksdag wants the conditions for bicycle traffic to improve. However, the measures taken by the government and the responsible authorities to achieve the Riksdag's goals have not been effective and developments are going in the wrong direction.
