Government Approves Second-Largest UK Solar Farm on Notts-Lincs Border
The project will cover about 3,954 acres and could supply electricity for more than 200,000 homes a year, developers said.
- On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Government approved the major One Earth Solar Farm on the Lincolnshire-Nottinghamshire border, authorized by Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero Lord Whitehead.
- The Planning Inspectorate had recommended refusal due to flood risk and visual impact, yet the Government approved the project following a six-month examination by developers PS Renewables and Perigus Energy.
- Powering more than 200,000 homes annually, the farm will produce up to 740 MW of energy and avoid 2.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, though action group leader David White called it a 'victory' for campaigners.
- West Lindsey councillors described the proposal as a "get rich quick scheme," while residents expressed being "mortified" by the decision and locals are considering legal appeals to challenge approval.
- Construction of the One Earth Solar Farm is expected to take two years, with completion slated for 2029, marking the 30th nationally significant clean energy project approved since July 2024.
