The national government agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to completely eliminate the fuel subsidy from 2027 onwards, reduce the fiscal deficit and generate aid programmes for vulnerable sectors in exchange for progress in financing a $1.9 billion loan. Point 13 of the document to which the Unitel network acceded refers precisely to the elimination of the subsidy in the coming year.
Minister Christian Morales said that the planned adjustment with the International Monetary Fund will include support mechanisms. The proposal, which seeks funding of $1.9 billion in three years, contemplates the reduction of the deficit and the withdrawal of the fuel subsidy since 2027.
