Maryland Gov. Moore Signs Bills Into Law Ending Law Enforcement Partnerships with ICE

- The Maryland legislature last week passed House Bill 444 and Senate Bill 245, which took effect on signing and require nine Maryland counties to end 287 agreements by July 2026.
- Gov. Wes Moore said `In Maryland, we will not allow untrained, unqualified and unaccountable agents to deputize our brave local law enforcement officers` and added `This legislation does not authorize the release of criminals` while Maryland will still coordinate on violent offenders.
- Local officials, including Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano, said she would explore legal challenges while complying, and Republicans condemned the law as stripping local authority, with Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey criticizing the move.
- The move follows the Baltimore ICE field office arresting more child predators than any other field office in the nation, as Prince George's County Council prepares for March 3.
