Gov. Landry Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Mall of Louisiana Victim
The governor said Odom’s death after the Mall of Louisiana shooting was an act of senseless violence and ordered flags lowered statewide.
- Funeral services for Martha Elizabeth Odom, the Lafayette teenager killed in an April 23 shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, are held today at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette.
- Odom and two other Ascension Episcopal School students were caught in the crossfire on April 23 when two groups exchanged gunfire inside the Mall of Louisiana food court in Baton Rouge.
- Beyond her academics, Odom completed 12 years of classical ballet training and performed 10 times in the Lafayette Ballet Theatre production of "The Nutcracker," according to an executive order.
- Governor Jeff Landry ordered flags flown at half-staff to honor Odom, writing, "She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and intelligent young woman," while describing her death as "an act of senseless violence."
- The Louisiana Senate unanimously approved a bill in a 32-0 vote to broaden first-degree murder definitions for public shootings where at least three people are at risk of great harm.
