Gotham Announces Plans to Play at New Etihad Park in 2028
The reigning NWSL champions will get a 25,000-seat home with their own locker room and digital branding changes on matchdays.
On Tuesday, Gotham FC announced plans to move home games to Etihad Park in Queens starting in 2028, placing the reigning NWSL champion franchise within New York City limits for the first time.
New York City FC is financing the $800 million stadium project, set to open in spring 2027 as the city's first soccer-specific venue with 25,000 seats.
"For so long, Gotham, like so many women's teams, we're always in borrowed spaces," Governor Carolyn Tisch Blodgett said, highlighting why the permanent venue matters.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the move brings "more customers for neighborhood restaurants" and creates a "permanent home for world-class women's soccer in the greatest city in the world."
While maintaining New Jersey roots, the club recently announced a $35 million training facility in Whippany, and Etihad Park will host major international events, including 2028 Olympic soccer matches.
