Gophers athletics forecasts another $9 million budget deficit
Mark Coyle told the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents that Gophers athletics forecasted nearly a $9 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2026.
For fiscal year 2027, starting in July, Gophers athletics projects another approximately $9 million deficit.
The University of Minnesota athletics department balanced the 2026 budget using a reserve fund.
The projected $9 million deficit is linked to costs from a House settlement, and the university's balanced budget requirement puts them in a better financial position than some Big Ten competitors.
