Gemini Is About to Remember Everything, Unless You Tell It Not To
Google's Gemini AI now remembers past chats by default while offering Temporary Chats that erase conversations within 72 hours to protect user privacy, rolling out first on Gemini 2.5 Pro.
- On August 13, Google announced that Gemini will automatically remember conversations via Personal Context, with Temporary Chats excluding certain interactions, active by default.
- Back in February, Google introduced a limited memory feature for paid Gemini Advanced users and is now expanding memory to all users to enhance personalization and privacy.
- Enabled by default, the Personal Context feature cannot be accessed by users under 18 or those with work or school Google Accounts, and it isn’t available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
- Preserving privacy, Temporary Chats delete after 72 hours and aren’t used for AI training or to influence responses.
- Starting September 2, Google will sample shared files and images to improve services and expand Personal Context to more regions and the Gemini 2.5 Flash model.
