The Fitbit Air Is Getting an Upgrade

  • On Monday, October 12, 2026, Google announced the Fitbit Edge, a screen-equipped fitness tracker priced at $179.99. Pre-orders open today, with shipments expected to begin on October 27.
  • Positioned between the Fitbit Air and the Google Pixel Watch 5, the Edge succeeds the Fitbit Charge 6, which had not received a display-equipped update since 2023.
  • The Edge features a 1.34-inch AMOLED screen delivering 46% more display than the Charge 6. The 11.5mm aluminum body includes a physical side button, built-in GPS, and an altimeter for elevation tracking.
  • In a brand first, the tracker includes a user-replaceable battery to extend hardware lifespan, likely influenced by upcoming European Union battery regulations set to take effect next year.
  • While lacking NFC for contactless payments, the tracker integrates AI-powered Health Coach features and supports over 100 activities. It remains compatible with both Android and iOS via the Google Health app.
