Google Maps Getting Gemini AI Tips, EV Charger Predictions, and Anonymous Reviews

Google Maps introduces AI-driven tips, review nicknames, and electric vehicle charger availability predictions to help users plan visits and trips more efficiently.

  • Following the big Gemini updates earlier this month, Google Maps is adding a Gemini-powered Know before you go section for restaurants, hotels, and concert venues in the United States on Android and iOS.
  • Gemini-Powered AI scans reviews and other online information to surface insider tips on booking, secret menu items and parking, and users can tap each tip or use the Ask a question capability.
  • Next week, EV charger availability predictions start rolling out globally on Android Auto and Android Automotive for hundreds of thousands of charging stations, using historical and real-time data.
  • Users can post reviews under a nickname by editing their Google Maps profile and selecting the Use a custom name & picture for posting checkbox, but reviews remain tied to your Google Account with protections intact.
  • On Android and iOS this month, Explore gains curated carousels showing trending restaurants, activities and sights from Lonely Planet, OpenTable, Viator and local influencers.
