Google rolling out Android 17 Beta 3 for Pixel
Android 17 Beta 3 delivers platform stability and key features like improved privacy controls and power management, supporting Pixel devices from Pixel 6 to Pixel 10 series.
- On Thursday, Google released Android 17 Beta 3, marking the Platform Stability milestone that locks the API surface for developers preparing final compatibility testing and Play Store submissions.
- Rolling out exactly four weeks after the previous release, Google shipped the first beta Feb. 13, the second Feb. 26, and now the third, aiming to show a near-final version at its May 19-20 I/O developer conference.
- Privacy and customization improvements include the ability to hide app labels on the home screen, split password visibility settings between touch and physical keyboards , and full enablement of Bubbles for any app.
- All Tensor-powered Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 Pro Fold, plus Pixel Tablet and Android Emulator, can run Beta 3, with general availability expected weeks after the May conference following the pattern of Pixel phones receiving updates before Samsung and other third parties.
- Beyond immediate features, Android 17's post-quantum cryptography support may become significant in coming years as it prepares apps for NIST standards and quantum computing advancements, while users can expect a second major update later this year with more noticeable features.
