Google Announces New Veo 3 AI Video Model Amid Sora Hype
Veo 3.1 adds richer audio, enhanced realism, and granular editing controls to Flow and Gemini platforms, with over 275 million videos created on Flow since May, Google said.
- On Wednesday, Google DeepMind released Veo 3.1 and made it available across Flow video editor, the Gemini App, the Gemini API, Vertex AI, and Vids.
- Building on Veo 3's progress earlier this year, Google presented Veo 3.1 as adding richer audio, enhanced realism and stronger prompt adherence to generated videos.
- Flow now includes scene-extension and Insert editing tools that add elements naturally with lighting and shadows, while Veo 3.1 supports horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 outputs plus a Fast variant.
- Access to Veo 3.1 requires a Google AI Pro subscription, and Flow users have created more than 275 million videos since its launch earlier this year.
- In the competitive landscape, this release keeps Google in a race with OpenAI's Sora iPhone app, and soon Flow will let users remove objects and reconstruct backgrounds.
