- Today, Google announced that it successfully reduced the frequency of janky scrolls in Chrome on Android by 48% between 2023 and 2026. This architectural upgrade ensures swiping through the web feels significantly smoother by prioritizing consistent frame delivery.
- Unlike standard Android apps, Chrome's multi-process architecture often caused micro-delays. Google implemented "Input Vizard," a structural shift that reroutes touch input events away from the busy main browser thread directly to the GPU's compositor thread.
- To guarantee smooth scrolling, Google deployed several new features. "Input prediction" generates synthetic scroll updates if the OS lags, while "Direct2Thread" eliminates unnecessary intermediate thread hops to speed up cross-process communication.
- Alongside these performance improvements, Google announced updates for Samsung's latest devices. The new Galaxy foldables ship with Gemini Nano, supporting more than 140 languages, alongside new tools for camera apps, adaptive layouts, and Wear widgets.
- The company is also pushing adaptive app design, encouraging developers to use Jetpack WindowManager and the new Grid API. As devices like the Galaxy Fold8 adopt landscape-first displays, developers can no longer assume every Android phone follows traditional portrait-first design.
