Google Health Finally Syncs Fitbit Data to Apple Health
Version 5.05 adds two-way syncing and lets exercise, sleep, vital signs and step data flow from Fitbit into Apple Health.
- On Monday, August 3, 2026, Google Health version 5.05 launched with the ability to sync Fitbit data directly to Apple Health. The update enables users to share exercise records, sleep, vitals, and steps between the platforms for the first time.
- Previously, Google Health only allowed one-way integration, reading Apple Health data without writing Fitbit information back. This limitation persisted since 2014, forcing users to rely on third-party tools or manual workarounds to bridge their health data.
- Users activate syncing by selecting 'Apps and services' within Google Health's 'Connections' menu, then adding Apple Health. However, some metrics like heart rate variability remain unsupported, and proprietary Google scores such as Cardio Load do not transfer to Apple Health.
- Beyond Fitbit syncing, version 5.05 introduces 'Smart Health Links,' allowing users to generate secure medical record summaries for physicians or family members. Fitbit data synced to Apple Health also becomes accessible to other HealthKit-compatible apps on iPhone.
- The iOS update is available now, while Google noted the Android version will follow shortly. Version 5.05 also fixed bugs affecting VO2Max readings and exercise map rendering, advancing cross-platform health data compatibility.
