Good Trouble Lives On Protests in Northern Illinois: Locations, Times, What You Need to Know

UNITED STATES, JUL 17 – Over 1,600 events will unite communities to honor John Lewis's legacy by advocating for justice, voting rights, and opposing recent civil rights rollbacks, organizers said.

  • On July 17, 2025, communities nationwide will take to streets, courthouses and community spaces to carry forward John Lewis’s fight for justice, voting rights and dignity for all.
  • Amid policies targeting immigrants, Black and Brown Americans and trans people, organizers said, participants will demand an end to attacks on civil and human rights, as they plan to respond to these policies.
  • In downtown Hilo, East Hawaii community members will gather at Pauahi Street and Kamehameha Avenue from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a food drive requesting non-perishable items, especially peanut butter.
  • Some 56,000 people RSVP’d for more than 1,500 events nationwide as of Friday, organizers confirmed to Axios, and they said this marked the largest turnout in the movement’s five-year history.
  • Channeling his mantra of `good trouble, necessary trouble`, the movement draws on Lewis’s philosophy of nonviolent civil disobedience, aimed at defending democracy and civil liberties.
