Golf rivalry returns to Langford for Indigenous Challenge Cup

The 2026 Indigenous Challenge Cup returns to Bear Mountain from Sept. 22 to 24, pitting eight of British Columbia's top Indigenous golfers against Ontario's best in a Ryder Cup-style match play showdown featuring four men and four women.
British Columbia captured the first two events at Bear Mountain in 2023 and 2024, before Ontario won the 2025 title at Taboo Muskoka; this year's tournament theme translates to "rising together," reflecting a mission to build youth opportunities.
Competitors take on the Mountain Course for morning four-ball matches on Sept. 23, before switching to the Valley Course for afternoon foursomes, with the tournament concluding with morning singles matches on Sept. 24.
CEO of British Columbia Golf Matthew Steinbach noted the event includes a First Tee youth clinic and two days of development sessions, stating, "These athletes are representing their nations and provinces, and just as importantly, they're inspiring the next generation."
Team British Columbia captain Patrick Kelly of the Leq First Nation helped establish the series; the final day carries special meaning for Kelly, as he will be invested into the Order of British Columbia at Government House in Victoria on Sept. 24.
