Golf Channel postpones 'Big Break' premiere after sponsor pulls out over Good Good Golf video
The network delayed the reboot after a sponsor asked to remove its branding following backlash to a Good Good ad that critics said showed violence against women.
On Tuesday, the Golf Channel postponed the premiere of 'Big Break x Good Good' until Sept. 1 after a sponsor requested branding removal due to ongoing controversy surrounding its partner, Good Good Golf.
Criticism erupted after Good Good posted a Callaway driver ad last week featuring Good Good member Garrett Clark shoving Alexis Miestowski to the ground. Both Good Good and Callaway Golf CEO Chip Brewers apologized for the video depicting violence against women.
Ahead of the Tour Championship in Atlanta on Tuesday, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said Good Good's initial response was 'disappointing' and 'a bit defensive and late,' though he noted ongoing conversations have improved the situation.
Regarding the Good Good Championship at Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas, Rolapp described the partnership status as 'a bit of a fluid situation,' stating the tour will monitor developments as the Nov. 12-15 event approaches.
Versant executive Tom Knapp designed the 'Big Break x Good Good' partnership with YouTube Golf stars to revitalize the original 2003–2015 series for younger audiences, aiming to reach mainstream television viewers through a modern reality format.
