Going-to-the-Sun Road Fully Opens for the Summer Season
Visitors can drive the full 50-mile route without reservations, while Logan Pass will get a three-hour parking limit starting July 1.
On Monday, Glacier National Park announced the Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully open for the 2026 season, allowing visitors to drive the entire 50-mile length without vehicle reservations.
Park officials prohibit vehicles longer than 21 feet or wider than 8 feet between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun to ensure safe travel on the narrow mountain road.
Robert and Meghan Moody from Ohio extended their trip after Saturday's wedding to take photos on the newly opened road, while traffic into West Glacier may cause delays of up to 2 miles and 30 minutes at peak times.
Lingering winter snow, wind, and icy conditions persist at Logan Pass, where The Highline Trail remains closed; staff strongly discourage walking on snow to protect fragile vegetation from soil erosion.
To protect wildlife and resources, the park urges visitors to have their Park Pass ready and discard garbage in bear-proof cans; visitor Todd Harris from Georgia recommends arriving prepared for nature and limited internet connectivity.
