‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Trailer Shows Chaos Coming to NYC: Monster Sequel Due in Fall
- On Tuesday, filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki unveiled the first trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, featuring the monster approaching the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
- Minus Zero serves as a direct sequel to the Oscar-winning 2023 film Godzilla Minus One. Yamazaki noted the new project features a larger budget than the $15 million used for the predecessor.
- The trailer picks up two years after the last attack, continuing the story of the Shikishima family. Minus Zero will release in the United States on Nov. 6 and in Japan on Nov. 3.
- Toho filmed the sequel for Imax, making it the first Japanese production to do so. Yamazaki highlighted behind-the-scenes footage of elaborate sets, bomber jets, and a mini Godzilla model.
- While Minus One earned $116 million worldwide, the previous film became the first Japanese production to win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Hollywood continues its franchise with next year's Godzilla X Kong: Supernova.
