GLP-1 drugs outperform SGLT-2 drugs for patients with Afib and type 2 diabetes

Individuals with atrial fibrillation (Afib), or irregular heart rhythm, are at increased risk of stroke, chronic kidney disease and heart failure. These risks are significantly exacerbated if a type 2 diabetes diagnosis is added to the mix, says Md Mohaimenul Islam, Ph.D., research assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
