Last year was the driest year for rivers worldwide in the last 35 years. The phenomenon of river flow failing to recover to previous levels has continued for seven consecutive years since 2019. Freshwater reserves, including groundwater and glaciers, have also decreased below average in 42% of watersheds, leading to concerns that the "Earth's water savings account" is running dry.
