Global Old Vine Registry Surpasses 10,000 Vineyards – A Major Milestone in Documenting the World’s Historic Vines
- The Old Vine Registry has surpassed 10,000 registered historic vineyards worldwide, reaching a 2027 goal more than a year early.
- Launched in 2023, the registry documents vineyards older than 35 years across 42 countries, covering 40,900 hectares and 1,144 grape varieties.
- The registry’s milestone vineyard is Beaumont Wine Estate’s Hope Vineyard in South Africa, planted in 1974, aligning with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine’s definition of old vines.
- The project was founded on the idea that vineyards cannot be protected unless they are first identified.
