- On Tuesday, Manchester United legend Gary Neville sold a majority stake in The Overlap to Global.
- Global Studios, launched last year, will host The Overlap to boost podcasts and pursue a video-first strategy, with Neville and Simon Pitts co-chairing The Overlap Network focused on football.
- The Overlap records over 38 million monthly YouTube views and has 1.6 million subscribers, with brands including Stick To Football and Stick To Cricket featuring Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, and Sir Alastair Cook, while Miroma Group exited and its audience surpasses Goalhanger's 457,000 subscribers.
- Using its distribution and data insights, Global plans to commercialise and scale The Overlap's brands by deploying platforms, ad sales, and branded entertainment across video and podcasts.
- Soon after the deal, Global Media & Entertainment reported revenue up 52% to £898m, a £140m pre-tax loss, and total borrowings of £1.9bn.
