Glenmorangie Releases A 50-Year-Old Whisky In A Stunning Ceramic Vessel
The limited edition uses bespoke ceramic vessels created by Peter and Laurie Pincus after a 1,000-day project.
- Limited to 149 ceramic bottles, Glenmorangie released its oldest whisky to date, a 50-year-old expression available through the Moët Hennessy Private Client Team, the Distillery Visitor Centre in Tain, and select retailers for £25,800.
- Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation, began the project 25 years ago, selecting spirit distilled in the mid-1970s to match contemporaries at The Dalmore and The Macallan with a unique, very old expression.
- Artists Peter Pincus and Laurie Pincus spent 1,000 days handcrafting bespoke porcelain display vessels, pioneering new ceramic techniques and creating 50 custom color pigments to ensure no two bottles are identical.
- Bottled at a cask strength of 45.7% ABV, the whisky features notes of baked oranges, sultanas, and nutmeg. Peter Pincus explained the three-year project allowed them to "live out an adventure" with their ceramics.
- The whisky contains spirit from the final batches of barley malted on-site before the floor maltings closed in 1977. Lumsden noted this rare process adds unique hints of smoke to the spirit's deep, mellow character.
