Gladys Knight, 82, to Take a Step Back From Performing
The 81-year-old singer is stepping back from touring after fans voiced concerns over her on-stage disorientation, despite her renowned vocal talent remaining intact.
On Thursday, August 27, 82-year-old singer Gladys Knight announced via Instagram she is "easing into fewer performances" to transition into the "next stage" of her career and life.
The announcement follows reports of fan concern after footage emerged showing Knight appearing disoriented during recent performances and relying heavily on her three backup singers.
Last year, son Shanga Hankerson expressed concerns Knight's touring schedule was "detrimental" to her health, though the singer refuted his allegations of abuse and insisted she was well.
Knight stated she plans to spend more time on projects with husband William McDowell and visiting her grandbabies, thanking fans for supporting her "every step of the way."
The Motown legend, who has performed for more than seven decades, now plans to focus on this "new era" while maintaining gratitude toward her dedicated supporters.
The 82-year-old singer said she wants to focus on a new chapter in her life - "I'm going to spend more time with my husband, working on projects, and visiting my grandchildren," she said.
