Girls’ Summer Camp Confirms 27 Children and Staff Killed in Texas Flooding
KERR COUNTY, TEXAS, JUL 9 – Camp Mystic lost 27 campers and counselors in flash floods that killed at least 82 in central Texas, with rescue teams continuing to search for dozens more missing.
- On July 4, 2025, the Guadalupe River surged into Camp Mystic cabins, sweeping away campsites and leaving 10 girls and a counselor unaccounted for.
- The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Hill Country, forecasting up to seven inches of rain, before totals reached 12 inches and the river swelled 20 feet.
- More than 850 people have been rescued, many by helicopters, Secretary Sean Duffy said, and boats, drones, helicopters and horses are combing the Hill Country.
- With FEMA activated, President Donald Trump signed a disaster declaration for Kerr County; Governor Greg Abbott declared emergencies in several counties, requesting federal aid.
