Former Speaker Gilbert Sworn in as US Attorney for Western Virginia
WESTERN DISTRICT OF VIRGINIA, JUL 15 – Todd Gilbert was sworn in as interim U.S. Attorney to oversee federal prosecutions in a district covering over 2.2 million residents, with bipartisan support and nearly 30 federal prosecutors under his leadership.
- Monday morning, Del. Todd Gilbert resigned his House seat and was sworn in at 11 a.m. as interim U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia following his nomination by President Donald Trump.
- After months of speculation following recommendations by U.S. Senators Mark Warner, Tim Kaine and Robert Tracci, the White House announced the nomination on July 1 and Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed him last week.
- U.S. District Judge Thomas Cullen administered the oath in Roanoke, Gilbert said `what is brewing in their local communities`, following the ceremony.
- The 33rd House District Legislative District Committee will select a Republican nominee for the November ballot, holding public interviews at 5 p.m. on July 29 at Stonewall Jackson High School gymnasium and requiring materials by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 18.
- A special election will be held to fill Gilbert’s seat in the House of Delegates, with voting weighted by past Republican turnout giving Shenandoah County a 50.23% share.
