Gilbert Sun News publisher buys 21 Colorado papers
- A strategic partnership set for 2025 between a nonprofit local news organization and Times Media Group will transfer ownership of 21 newspapers in the Denver metro area to TMG.
- This transfer follows the National Trust’s 2021 purchase of Colorado Community Media, which included close to 30 publications serving Colorado’s Front Range; the Trust continues to own seven of these titles.
- TMG, a media company that manages more than 60 publications across Arizona, California, and Colorado including the Gilbert Sun News, will provide operational support such as printing through the Trust Press as well as handling design, advertising, and circulation for the partnership.
- Will Nelligan highlighted that the partnership enables the continuation of robust community news coverage throughout the Denver area while directing expansion efforts toward areas where it can achieve lasting benefits, and Steve Strickbine acknowledged the valuable heritage of the publications involved.
- The partnership aims to strengthen Colorado’s local journalism by aligning resources and ensuring continued access to community-centered news for years, while the National Trust grows digital reach in retained rural areas.
