Residents of a town in central Alberta are casting their ballots in a plebiscite that will bring the community one step closer to answering a question it's been wrestling with for months.

The vote follows months of debate over the town's financial future. At one point Gibbons was at risk of insolvency after the new council discovered millions of dollars in debt.
