Fire Hits Fuyao Glass’s $46M Moraine Facility, Centerpiece of $300M Expansion
Firefighters used thousands of gallons of water to battle the blaze amid 40 mph winds and severe weather, with no injuries reported and electricity cut to the plant.
On Sunday, March 22, a fire broke out at Fuyao Glass America in Moraine, Ohio, around 8:30 p.m., forcing employees to evacuate safely from the automotive glass manufacturing plant.
High winds gusting up to 44 mph hampered firefighting efforts, with severe storms pushing fire and smoke toward Springboro Pike and forcing crews to suspend aerial ladders due to lightning strikes.
Moraine Fire Marshal Doug Hatcher confirmed no injuries among employees or first responders, with the blaze remaining mostly confined to the roof throughout the night.
Employees were notified not to report to work on Monday as the fire struck newer manufacturing and coating lines within the facility's production complex.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze at the complex, which employs more than 2,000 people and represents a major Miami Valley manufacturing hub.
