As of 2027, the new EU Emissions Trading (ETS-2) will be charging prices for the first time across Europe on CO2 emissions in the areas of buildings and transport.

More than a dozen EU Member States, including Germany, have asked the European Commission to amend its plans for the introduction of a carbon price in transport and heating fuels from 2027 in order to avoid price spikes, as reported in the Tagesspiegel Background newsletter.
