Germany and Netherlands Reach the World Cup After Big Wins in Final Qualifiers
- Germany sealed automatic qualification with a 6-0 win in Leipzig, securing top spot in Group A and their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- After a shock defeat early in qualifying, Germany mounted a five-win recovery following a 2-0 loss by Slovakia in Group A and entered the final game needing only a draw.
- Four first-half goals — from Woltemade, Gnabry and a Sané brace — set the tone; Ridle Baku and debutant Assan Ouédraogo added second-half goals, and coach Julian Nagelsmann said `Every player had a great game`.
- That result puts Germany in pot 1 for the World Cup draw in Washington, D.C., reducing the chance of facing another top-10 team, while Slovakia and Poland head to playoffs with the draw on Thursday.
- Germany will be competing on soccer's biggest stage for the 21st time in 23 editions, aiming for a fifth FIFA World Cup title despite group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022.
