German army helps Poland protect itself against Russia
Poland is building a defense system along its northern and eastern borders to protect itself from Russia. Since June, German sappers have been assisting their NATO ally with the construction of the East Shield.
For the past five weeks, Polish and German soldiers have been working together to fortify it in order to prevent a possible attempt to pass through hostile forces: they dig trenches, lay barbed wires, install thousands of concrete anti-tank obstacles, nicknamed "herons", through fields and meadows. After two years of the Eastern Shield program, initial operational readiness has been achieved in many locations, announced Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He added that approximately €10 billion has already been allocated for activities related to securing the eastern border.
American and British soldiers will soon arrive in Poland, along with their engineering teams, to fortify NATO's eastern flank, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He also announced that 80 French engineers will join the East Shield team. The minister noted that after two years of the East Shield program, initial operational readiness has been achieved in many locations.
