Every year, the German Book Prize promises attention for the six best novels of the season. This year, a fraud muzzle also causes a stir in the run-up to the book fair.
Four weeks before the award of the German Book Prize, the jury announces its six finalists. Five authors continue to compete for the title of the best German-language novel of the year.
Out of 20 titles nominated for the most prominent prize for German-language novels, the jury selects their shortlist: Dana Vowinckel, Shida Bazyar and Valeria Gordeev.
Six novels are still in the race for the German Book Prize 2026. The jury has published its shortlist. There is also a debutante.
The winner's award will take place on 5 October. Breis is endowed with 25,000 euros.
