French prosecutors have again asked an investigating judge to prosecute film actor Gérard Depardieu. He is accused of raping actress Charlotte Arnould. An investigating judge must now decide whether a trial will take place, reports the French news agency AFP.


The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office had already taken such requisitions in August 2024. The final decision is now up to the instructing magistrate.
On Tuesday 22 July 2025, Gérard Depardieu was referred to the Paris Criminal Court as part of Charlotte Arnould's charges against her. The actress welcomes this court decision, on her Instagram account.
The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office had already taken such requests on 14 August 2024. Since then, the investigation had been reopened following a request by the actor for expertise on sexual and sexist statements he had made during a filming in North Korea, revealed by "Supplementary Investigation" in December 2023.
