EU Council of Ministers agreed: former NEOS politician Gerald Loacker has also taken the last hurdle for his EU top job, and from 1 October he will become a member of the European Court of Auditors for six years. However, the appointment procedure was not exactly round.
Former NEOS politician Gerald Loacker was appointed on Monday by the EU Council of Ministers as a member of the European Court of Auditors for the period 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2032, following Helga Berger. The right to propose the post was granted to NEOS under the coalition agreement. Loacker's nomination had been criticised in Austria and had also raised critical issues in the hearing in the relevant parliamentary committee in July.
